The Voice coach Rita Ora stunned thousands with a very unexpected decision following the unbelievable performances by powerhouse singers Tarryn Stokes and Nyree Huyser during Sunday night’s Battles.
The two mums belted out Alone by Heart, wowing all the judges with the standout performance.
“I cannot believe what I just heard, if I’m being honest,” judge Guy Sebastian said. “Either one could win.”

The decision was so hard, that it left Rita unable to decide which singer to send home – and who to move to the next round.
“This is the hardest decision I’ve ever made, honestly, on this show,” Rita said. “But I can only take one.”
In the end, she made a last-minute plea to host Sonia Kruger to hold off for as long as possible on having to make a decision.
“I don’t want to do this, but I am actually so torn. I just need more time,” she said.
“Sonia, do what you gotta do.”
In the end, Rita was told she could wait until all of her battles were complete to make a decision.
But it was only at the end of the show that it became apparent there might have been a secret intention behind Rita’s strategy.
At the end of the show, Rita’s final two performers – Gezel Bardossi and Elsa Marilyn – performed in their own Battles round.
But instead of selecting one of these singers to go home, as she was supposed to, Rita called Tarryn and Nyree to the stage.
She then decided to send both Gezel and Elsa home and send Tarryn and Nyree to the next round.
“Sometimes getting the answer you want may not be the answer you need to be best version of yourself,” Rita said, explaining her unexpected decision.
“With that in mind, I’m so sorry – I can’t put Gezel and Elsa through tonight.”
Stunned, Sonia said: “So Rita, just to clarify, that means you want to send Tarryn and Nyree to the Sing For Your Life round?”
Rita agreed and the two performers were then sent to the stage again, belting out two more hits.
The turn of events – and an intriguing comment by Rita – lead some viewers to wonder if this was why the UK judge chose to hold off on sending Tarryn or Nyree home after their initial performance.
“Just to hear the two of you sign again, selfishly, it was such a treat,” Rita said.
She added: “It’s like I just keep extending the inevitable. You literally blew me away with your performance earlier. That was the strongest battle I’ve ever seen.”
In the end, Rita chose to take Tarryn through to the next round, sending Nyree home.
“I am sorry, because you both deserve it,” Rita said.
