Highway 101 in Redwood City set for weekend closures in each direction

REDWOOD CITY – A stretch of Highway 101 is set to undergo two separate closures starting later this month as crews work to replace a bridge in Redwood City, according to Caltrans.

The shutdowns were ordered to enable the replacement of the Cordilleras Creek Bridge, which runs between the Whipple Avenue and Brittan Avenue exits. Caltrans said the bridge is at the end of its service life.

The initial closure will last between Sept. 29 and Oct. 2 and will only affect the southbound lanes of 101. It’ll begin at 10 p.m. Friday and end at 5 a.m. Monday. Drivers will be detoured at the Britton Avenue exit, and can return to the highway on the Whipple Avenue on-ramp.

The closure affecting northbound lanes was set from Oct. 13 to 16 and will follow the same hours as the southbound closure, which is 10 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday. Drivers may detour from the Whipple Avenue off-ramp to the Holly Street on-ramp.
