Jones has signed over the rights to his archival voice work so AI could work upon it to recreate his voice. Lucasfilm and a Ukrainian company called Respeecher are working on this voice recreation project with the help of machine learning. As per the report, Respeecher helped recreate the Jones’s Darth Vader voice for the Obi-Wan Kenobi show and also the voice of a young Luke Skywalker for The Book of Boba Fett.
Disney’s Obi-Wan Kenobi TV show brought the life of the Jedi Master in focus after the terrible events of Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith, the prequel trilogy topper. Darth Vader played a pivotal role in the six-part series and is shown being on the hunt for his old master Obi-Wan, sending Inquisitors to ferret him out from whatever place he is hiding at.
There are more Star Wars projects in the works and the voice of Jones is certainly going to remind film goers and Star Wars fans that one of the biggest villains in the history of cinema will be trying to make the resistance of the opposing side useless. The AI voice project also makes it easier for the creative teams at Disney and Lucasfilm to think of possible storylines with Darth Vader in future, with the AI-enabled voice of James Earl Jones supporting them.
