Real-Life Weight Story of Ekta Verma
How much did you lose in how many days?
I lost 12 kilograms in terms of weight loss and overall 10 inches in the last 4 years
What was your motivation behind weight loss?
During the pandemic, with the complete shutdown managing my professional and personal life was challenging. I experienced increased weight, health issues and stress which subsequently affected me. I realised that to keep the show going, I have to be physically and mentally healthy. I decided to improve my overall health, starting primarily with weight loss, which is key to many health issues.
What was your weight loss diet (what drinks you had, did you eat fruits etc) and routine?
The weight loss diet is well crafted and prepared by our Founder Trainer and Nutritionist Ms Sonia Bakshi. I would like to mention here that the diet includes a wide range of everyday foods that we eat but with guidance for example which food is to be consumed for breakfast lunch and dinner. It is very important to follow a healthy diet to lose weight. My diet primarily begins with seeds (chia, flax, quinoa) for breakfast. In addition to this, I have been trying to eat seasonal fruits daily. Midday meal is always vegetables pulses and proteins and sometimes carbohydrates too. I completely avoid aerated and artificial drinks and have lemon water, coconut water or green tea. Dinner is always protein or vegetables and I have been following this regime significantly. I strongly adhere to eat my last meal at least three hours before going to bed. Following this routine, my digestive system is perfect, and my body feels light and active.
Did you completely cut down on sugar?
Yes, honestly, I have completely cut down on direct intake of sugar. My tea and coffee are always without sugar. Sometimes in certain situations if at all I have to eat any dessert it has to be before 4 in the afternoon. After this, I strongly restrict myself from consuming anything sweet.
Did you have cheat meals? If yes, then how many times in a week? What is your go-to cheat meal?
Yes, I do have cheat meals and it is definitely during weekends. and I try to have it before sunset. My go to cheat meal is biryani.
What is one rule that you abide by for losing weight?
The one cardinal rule that I strongly believe in is to never miss the workout . In case of dire situations, even 20 to 30 minutes of exercise suffices, but one should not escape the routine as the movement of the body and muscles is predominantly important to burn the calories we consume.
What was one thing that worked best for you?
The thing that worked best for me is mentor-mentee relationship. My DTF weight loss journey is incomplete without mentioning my supremely talented, magnanimous, dedicated and passionate trainer Ms Rupal Srivastava ( Sector-119 DTF ). It is very important to understand that everyone has different body types, metabolism and core strength and what may work for one individual may not apply to others. This eventually leads to stress dissatisfaction and demotivation and here Rupal plays a vital role. She is always there for guidance and constantly motivates us to step out of our comfort zone and brings out our best. With her detailed guidance and regular workouts, I have been able to overcome my health issues. I am now able to perform squats, jumps and push-ups with increased core strength. I would like to mention here that I suffer from knee gap, occasional knee pain and breathing issues. However, my weight loss journey has contributed significantly to my physical, mental and spiritual growth.
One challenge that you faced and how did you overcome it?
The predominant challenge I faced was following the correct diet. For substantial weight loss, it is very important to practice mindful eating. Since I work round the clock, it is inevitable to follow it completely. Here, both Sonia and Rupal have helped me throughout with do’s and don’ts for correct eating, tips for substituting my diet with healthy alternatives and continuously guiding and monitoring my weight and eating patterns.
Is there a weight loss myth that you got to know about during your journey?
The biggest myth is that losing weight is usually a linear process, as some people think. Some days and weeks, one may lose weight, while during others, they may gain a little bit. This is not a cause for concern. It’s normal for body weight to fluctuate by a few pounds. As long as the general trend is downwards, no matter how much it fluctuates, one will still succeed in losing weight over the long term.
