Now that Sofia Coppola’s Priscilla Presley biopic, Priscilla, is out, we’re anxious to see on how the auteur filmmaker has portrayed Presley’s story from her perspective. Like many of Sofia Coppola’s films, Priscilla is undoubtedly going to be another gauzy, aesthetically pleasing work akin to Marie Antoinette and The Virgin Suicides.
From the trailers, we see glimpses of Presley’s (as portrayed by Cailee Spaeny) instantly recognizable black beehive and winged eyeliner. But how do her outfits compare to her real life counterpart? Below, see four of Priscilla Presley’s real life looks and their onscreen portrayals.
Leaving Germany, 1960
When Elvis Presley was honorably discharged after an 18-month Army service in West Germany, he left behind his girlfriend, Priscilla Beaulieu, who was living with her family on the base. The two met when Elvis was 24 and Priscilla was just 14, and married just weeks before her 22nd birthday.
Coppola stuck to the script based on photos of Beaulieu waving goodbye to Presley at the Frankfurt Airport. To match her, Spaeny wore a gray belted dress with blue and brown plaid, a brown jacket, and a white head scarf.
