Use your lights wisely
Turn on your low-beam headlights, even in the daytime. Avoid using high beams as they can reflect off the fog, reducing visibility for you and other drivers. If your vehicle is equipped with fog lights, use them as they are designed to cut through fog and provide better visibility.

Slow down and maintain distance
Reduce your speed when driving in foggy conditions. This gives you more time to react to sudden obstacles or changes in traffic. Apart from that, always keep a considerable distance between your vehicle and the one in front of you. Fog can make it difficult to judge distances, and having enough space provides room for sudden stops.
Stay alert
Keep your full attention on the road. Avoid distractions like using your phone or adjusting the radio. Listen for traffic sounds and use your mirrors to be aware of your surroundings. You can also roll down your windows to listen for approaching traffic, especially at intersections. However, this won’t be as effective as it used to be with the arrival of electric cars on roads that make no noise.
Be cautious at intersections
Approach intersections with extra care. Reduce your speed, look in all directions, and proceed only when you are certain it is safe to do so.
Plan your route
If possible, choose familiar routes where you know the road conditions. Avoid shortcuts or unfamiliar roads in dense fog.
Stay out when you’re unsure
If you’re unsure, it’s best to stay away. In situations of zero visibility, it’s safer to carefully and slowly move your vehicle off the road and wait until visibility improves. Find a secure spot to park and be sure to turn on both the parking and hazard lights.
