An eco influencer has taken the internet by storm with her amazingly simple hack for keeping avocados fresh.

Alyssa from sustainable lifestyle platform, Brightly, even goes so far as to claim she’s able to enjoy perfectly preserved mouthfuls of smooth green fruit up to four months after buying them.

She posted her “ultimate avocado hack” to the brand’s TikTok, accruing more than 281,000 eyeballs.

“I love avocados but I end up throwing them away a lot,” Alyssa told viewers.

“But when I have one perfectly ripe like this I throw it in the freezer if I’m not going to eat it that day and they last for months, like 3-4 months.”

Alyssa demonstrated the effectiveness of her “hack” by removing a pre-frozen avocado from her freezer and allowing it to thaw, before cutting into it to reveal its perfectly verdant green flesh.

“I’ll just let that thaw out for like 30 minutes to an hour then I’ll give it a little slice, peel it a little bit, test it out … and let me tell you that baby has not aged a single day,” she said.

While it’s impossible to tell whether the texture of the avocado flesh can withstand the freezing and thawing process to retain a firm, creamy consistency, overall viewers praised the nifty culinary solution.

“LISTEN. This wooooorks!!” wrote one Tik Tokker.

“This is true .. I do it .. but beware when you cut you have one hour and it starts to turn brown,” added another.

However, some warned the texture does indeed suffer in the process:

“Need to use it all after cutting when having been frozen. A little watery. But still a great idea to not waste them when ripe,” wrote one.

Of course, there may be some minor alterations to the avocado in the process but if it means eating fresh guacomole year-round we’re all for it!
