Google Docs comes with a lot of features that are aimed at offering convenience to users. One such feature is voice typing. Now, this is a generic feature and now an accessibility feature. That said, both normal and physically abled people can use this feature in just a few clicks.
What is voice typing in Google Docs
Voice typing, as the name suggests, is a feature that allows users to type using their voice. It’s like a voice-based narration feature when enabled, Google Docs automatically starts converting the voice into text in real-time. The feature is useful when you want to type something really fast have some issues or are unable to type or the keyboard is not working for some reason.
What you’ll need to voice type in Google Docs
– A web browser
– Google Account
– Internet connecitivity
– PC with a working microphone
Let’s get started with the steps
Enabling the voice typing feature in Google Docs is fairly simple. Users can enable this from the Tools tab in Docs or using a simple keyboard shortcut. Let’s see how to enable it.
– Open Google Docs (docs.google.com) using any web browser
– Login using your Google account, if not already
– Now, Click on Create a new document and then click on the Tools tab at the top
– Select the Voice typing option from the drop-down menu
– A small popup window with microphone will appear on the document screen
– Here you’ll see a small drop down for language selection. Choose the language you want to use
– Then, click on the mic icon to start the voice typing
That’s it! You can now start speaking to your PC and Docs will start converting it to text automatically.
Alternatively, you can also use CMD+Shift+S on Mac or Ctrl+Shift+S on Windows to enable this feature.
Disclaimer: Voice typing feature works really well. However, there are times it does not capture everything perfectly due to multiple reasons. So, don’t forget to proofread once after you are done typing.
