Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras) successfully completed its Phase I of placement (December 2023), despite the challenges posed by cyclone Michaung, the institute said in a statement. According to IIT Madras‘ statement, first day of placements marked a milestone for IITM, witnessing a record number of offers.
In the year 2023, the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) ranked the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras first in India overall and in the engineering category.This was the eighth year in a row that IIT Madras was ranked first in the engineering category.
“By the end of the first phase of placements, there was a substantial increase in hiring from the Core sector, along with a significant rise in international offers for postgraduate students compared to last year. The median salary of all the offers made by companies in Phase I was over Rs 19 lakh,” claimed the institute.
Equity and inclusivity principles
The placement process was carried out with equity and inclusivity, with more than 55% of the placed students hailing from socially and economically challenging backgrounds.
The Institute extended its sincere thanks to all the organisations who participated in the December 2023 placements.
“IIT Madras has placed so far about 50% of the students. As the Institute prepares for its next Phase II of the placement process, it further extends a warm invitation to organisations who are looking for talented human resources to visit the campus and engage with the Placement and Internship office at the Career Pathway Centre of IIT Madras,” read the statement.
