London, July 12: Team India is currently on a tour of England, but the corona crisis facing the players is getting worse. The Corona Virus has infiltrated county cricket in England. The ongoing Derby match between Derbyshire and Essex was canceled on Monday after a player tested positive for a corona. Corona, a Derbyshire player, tested positive, the England Cricket Board said. Team India’s off-spinner R Ashwin is also playing in the county.
After testing positive for corona, the player has isolated himself. The other players in the team also came in contact with the cricketer, so the umpire decided to cancel the match, the ECB said. The Cricket Board is working with Derbyshire and Essex County Clubs. The health of the players, staff and officials is important to us. Match points will be announced later, the board said.
On the other hand, Peter Handscomb, who has been out of the Australian team for some time, has been corona. This has led to Handscombe being knocked out of the county match against Lancashire. Handscombe, 30, is leading Middlesex, but could not play in Sunday’s Championship Group Two match. The handscomb has been kept in isolation since the corona test came back positive.
Before the ODI series against Pakistan, 7 members of the England team (England vs Pakistan) contracted corona, so they had to change the entire team. Sri Lanka’s batting coach Grant Flower and another teammate who went on a tour of England got corona, which also postponed the India-Sri Lanka (India vs Sri Lanka) series.
Corona also joined the Kent team in English County. All have been sent to 10 days of isolation after one player tested positive for a corona. Kent was playing against Surrey on July 9 at the Kia Oval. Then, on July 10, one of the team members was found to have a corona. This has isolated everyone on the team as per UK government rules.
Crisis on India-England series
On the one hand, corona’s involvement in county cricket has created a crisis in the India-England series. The five-Test series starts on August 4. Team India players are currently resting in England, not in the bio-bubble. Players are out of the bio-bubble for 20 days after the final of the World Test Championship. The India-England Test series will be the first in the second season of the World Test Championship.
