Indianapolis 500 2024 qualifying order

Indianapolis 500 qualifying is scheduled for Saturday and Sunday on the 2.5-mile Indianapolis Motor Speedway oval. Positions 13-30 for the May 26 race will be established Saturday, while positions 1-12 and 31-33 will be determined Sunday. One driver will not make the race.

All drivers are guaranteed one qualifying run on Saturday. After the first round, cars that want to make additional runs slot into two lanes throughout the afternoon. Going through the priority lane gets a car onto the track sooner, but the previous attempt must be withdrawn. Going through the second lane allows drivers to improve on a previous qualifying time without withdrawing it.

Drivers want to be first line for qualifying because temperatures are often cooler and more conducive to speed than during the afternoon.

“Early draw is going to be God’s gift to whoever gets it,” driver Graham Rahal said Friday afternoon.

Kyle Kirkwood gets to lead off qualifying 11 a.m. ET Saturday. Alexander Rossi is last in line.

Here is the qualifying order for the first round on Saturday.
