Last week, the fashion set made their way to Milan to see the new collections, where the Italian city has found itself playing host to an influential crop of new designers. Ferragamo’s Maximilian Davis, Bottega Veneta’s Matthieu Blazy, and Matteo Tamburini, the new designer at Tod’s, have all made an impact with their recent collections. However, when it comes to moda Italiana, few can claim a pull as strong as Mrs. Miuccia Prada. This season, the presence of Vogue’s March cover star was felt both on and off the runway, with many showgoers hitting the streets in her designs—and in one of her favorite silhouettes, the skirt.
Skirts, of course, are nothing new in the world of fashion, but they seem to be having their moment as a new “It” item. Mrs. Prada, who is known for a love of skirts herself, has leaned on them heavily in her last few collections and it seems that showgoers have been taking notes. In Milan this season, we saw statement skirts styled in a myriad of ways. Prada’s sheer style was paired with a rugged field jacket, a nod to brand’s fall/winter 23 collection, while feathered and fringe styles were tempered by boyish blazers. The season’s new staple will easily lend itself to spring and transitional dressing, when paired with a light jacket and a classic knit. For more ideas on how to style it, check out our edit below.
Peekaboo Sheer
In a look pulled straight from Prada’s fall/winter 23 runway show, a feminine sheer skirt is paired with a rugged field jacket for an edgy mix.
Fringe Is Forever
Spice up a simple blazer with a fun, fringe skirt and statement shoes.
Not-So-Flighty Feathers
Balance a feathered skirt with preppy basics—a blazer, pullover knit, and button up shirt are just right.
Prints in Bloom
For transitional dressing, a spring-ready floral skirt looks great with a classic trench.
Subtle Statements
Surround an eye-catching piece with closet classics like a white T-shirt and trench coat. Thin layering necklaces and bright red nails add a personal touch to tie it all together.
Neutrals Matter
Simple is best. A chic coat, simple knit, and sleek boots let sequins shine without being overpowering.
Shine Bright
Here, a simple white skirt gets an upgrade with a pop of red and a sleek, metallic overcoat.
