Update: As expected, Williams has returned to the contest. We’ll see if the eye issue bothers him at all during the game but for now he’s back on the floor as the Thunder attempt to take a 3-0 lead over the Pelicans in this series.
Oklahoma City Thunder forward Jalen Williams, who emerged as a productive starter for the team this season, suffered an eye injury in the opening minute of Game 3 against the New Orleans Pelicans Saturday. Williams initially got looked at on the bench before heading back to the locker room. Given the nature of the injury, he’s likely to return in some capacity.
Early timeout in New Orleans as Jalen Williams got hit in the face on a drive.
Being attended to on the bench. Looked like he got hit by Brandon Ingram’s right arm.

Williams had a strong all-around showing in Game 2, going for 21 points, seven assists and five rebounds in what ended up being a 32-point win for Oklahoma City. He’s been an important part of this starting lineup since he takes some scoring pressure off Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and has defensive versatility to guard several positions. The Thunder will need to adjust their defensive approach if he’s unable to return.
If Williams doesn’t come back, Gordon Hayward and Kenrich Williams are likely to take on additional minutes. We could also see Jaylin Williams get more action but as mentioned earlier, it feels like the Thunder starter will come back in this contest.
