Japan, U.S., S. Korea to adopt new document at summit Friday|Arab News Japan

Washington: The leaders of Japan, the United States and South Korea will meet at the Camp David presidential retreat near Washington on Friday (early Saturday Japan time) to adopt a new document on the basic ideas of trilateral cooperation, including maintaining a free and open international order based on the rule of law.

At the summit, Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, U.S. President Joe Biden and South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol are slated to make trilateral summit, ministerial and other meetings regular events, in order to strengthen multilayered cooperation among the three countries.

Kishida, Biden and Yoon will review progress toward the full implementation by the end of this year of a system to immediately share information among their countries on North Korea’s ballistic missile launches.

The leaders are also expected to agree to routinely hold joint missile defense and other exercises among the Japanese Self-Defense Forces and the U.S. and South Korean militaries.

They are likely to reaffirm their unity against China’s growing hegemonic moves and Russia’s continued invasion of Ukraine.

Other items on the agenda include economic security, such as strengthening supply chains.

After the summit, the three leaders will hold a joint press conference to demonstrate their strong partnership.

The summit will be the first among the three leaders since they met on the sidelines of the Group of Seven summit in the western Japan city of Hiroshima in May. It will also be the first stand-alone occasion for the leaders to gather.
