Actress Jennifer Carpenter is bringing her Dexter character back to life for the upcoming series revival.
The star played homicide detective Debra Morgan, the sister of Michael C. Hall’s titular character, a forensic blood spatter analyst with a dark, secret life, in the original crime drama series, which ran for eight seasons until 2013.
Carpenter’s onscreen alter ego was killed off in the series finale, but it appears she will be back in some capacity for the limited revival.
Co-star John Lithgow divulged the news of Carpenter’s involvement as he discussed his own return to the hit TV show, in which he played Arthur Mitchell, aka the Trinity Killer, who also met his demise in Season 4.
“As all Dexter fans know, we saw the end of the Trinity Killer, so that by definition means it’s a flashback,” Lithgow explained to Deadline.com about how his role fits into the arc of the new episodes.
“It was just wonderful to rejoin that gang – including Michael and Jennifer Carpenter and (showrunner) Clyde Phillips.”
Bosses at U.S. cable network Showtime gave Dexter a 10-episode order in October, bringing Hall and writer/director Phillips back together for the new project.
