Joe Burrow plans to ‘give people something to talk about this year’

While most would argue Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow is one of the best in the league when healthy, he has struggled to stay on the field through his first four years in the NFL.

The No. 1 overall pick in 2020 is coming off his second season-ending injury (wrist) after tearing his ACL and MCL during his rookie year.

He knows people may have forgotten how good he is.

“I believe that,” Burrow said on “Pardon My Take.” “That’s what happens when you get hurt, though. You don’t play football, people forget about you.”

Burrow has thrown for 14,083 yards and 97 touchdowns across 52 games while also leading Cincinnati to two AFC title games and Super Bowl LVI.

It proves how much of a difference maker Burrow is when on the field and he’s planning to remind everyone just that this season.

“If you’re not out there and people aren’t watching you, then there’s nothing to talk about,” Burrow added. “I’m going to give people something to talk about this year. I’m excited about it.”

What exactly that means is up for debate, but if Burrow is fully healthy, he’ll give Cincinnati another chance to win its franchise’s first Super Bowl.

Injuries have been the only thing that have slowed Burrow down since entering the NFL. That’s why it’s his No. 1 priority to be available for the entirety of the 2024 season.

“Well, number one, I want to be on the field for all the games,” Burrow said via Ben Felderstein of Complex Sports. “I know I’m going to play well when I’m out there. I’m at that point in my career where I’ve seen enough to know myself that I can go out there and play as well as anybody in the game. The biggest strides this year are going to be my body and learning how to get through the season, get through practices with my body, and feeling in tip-top shape. And so that’s the main focus for the offseason.”

If Burrow can do that, he may become just the second player in NFL history (Chad Pennington) to be named the NFL Comeback Player of the Year twice.
