Kangana Ranaut has intensified her criticism of Ranbir Kapoor‘s film ‘Animal’, targeting both the film’s portrayal of violence and the role of its creators. In a recent discussion with Siddharth Kannan, Kangana expressed her dissatisfaction with the film’s depiction of unchecked violence and lack of meaningful consequences.
She argued that the film glamorizes brutality without addressing its repercussions, stating, “Kis tarah ki film hai aap dekh lijiye.Box office pe bawaal machati hai patriarchal film, oho. Dekh ke lagta hai ki kahan se nikal rahe hain yeh log taaliyan seetiyaan marne? Kulhaadi leke agar ladke nikle aur maara maar khoon sirf kulhaadi leke nikle hue hain. Na koi unko law and order pooch raha hai kuch. Machine guns leke voh school main jaate hain, jaise ki police hai hi nahi. Jaise ki uske consequences hain hi nahi”.
She further criticized the film for its lack of engagement with the consequences of its violent themes, adding, “Law and order hai hi nahi, laasho ke dher hain. Kyu? Masti hai chhai hui hai. Na voh lok kalyaan ke liye hai, na voh sarhado ke liye hai, na voh jann kalyaan ke liye hai. Bas masti main hai. Drugs karke mast hain. Aur kya janta nikalti hai usko dekhne ke liye. Aap janta ko bhi dekhiye”.
Kangana called for a stronger critique of such films and their creators, emphasizing that the media should also be held accountable for promoting them and failing to highlight the consequences of such actions. “Toh kya bol sakte hain aisi society ke liye? Chinta ka yeh vishay hai. Iss tarah ki filmon ko discourage hona chahiye aur ninda honi chahiye. Jo aise logo ko saza milti hai, media bhi responsible hai usko bhi promote karna chahiye. Saza kya mili unko? Yeh bhi promote karna chahiye aur jo log bana rahe hain unko criticize karna chahiye”, she said.
Earlier this year, Kangana had similarly condemned the film on social media, lamenting the trend of films that reduce women to mere props and subjects of objectification. Reflecting on her journey in the industry, she remarked, “I have been fighting hard so far but even audiences are encouraging films where women are treated like sex objects and asked to lick shoes… The latest trend of films where women are reduced to mere flower on the wall, violently and disgracefully stripped of their dignity and clothes is beyond appalling. Reminds me of the time when I entered films, vulgar item numbers, quick in and out sleazy and dumb roles against older men were prevalent. Many years later fighting for pay parity, trying to encourage female lead films like Gangster, Woh Lamhe, Fashion, Queen, Tanu Weds Manu, Manikarnika, Thalaivii, and Tejas I ruffled many feathers along the way”.
As she prepares for the release of her upcoming film ‘Emergency’ on September 6, Kangana remains vocal about her stance on the portrayal of violence and gender issues in Bollywood.
