Once a Chanel girl, always a Chanel girl. Keira Knightley, a longtime ambassador for the brand, is showing her continued support as the French house searches for a new creative director.
Knightley hit the UK’s see-and-be-seen event of the season, Wimbledon, decked out in Virginie Viard’s Chanel. She wore a white one-shoulder, calf-length dress with a drop waist, scalloped underskirt, and a black ribbon tied at the shoulder, from the Resort 2020 collection. She accessorized with color block pumps and a white quilted shoulder bag with a gold chain strap.
But Knightley’s most notable add-on was her straw hat with a black ribbon detail. And if she is loyal to Chanel, the actor is just as faithful to the gondolier hat. In Paris for the Chanel couture show, Knightley opted for a white straw hat festooned with a blue and white scarf. Whether she’s wearing her best tennis whites or an oversized striped button-up, she’s making a strong case for the flat-brimmed accessory, no matter the occasion.
Knightley’s European hat is reminiscent of Madeline of the Madeline books created by Ludwig Bemelmans. Sure, Madeline’s hat had an upturned brim, but in her charming little chapeau, we’re suddenly craving an adult Madeline movie starring Keira Knightley.
