Kiama, NSW: Man Air Evacuated to Hospital Following an Incident at Woolworths Construction Site

A young man was airlifted to hospital on Thursday after a workplace accident at a Woolworths on the NSW South Coast.

Paramedics were called to the supermarket on Terralong St, Kiama at 1pm and treated a man in his 20s for back injuries.

He was subsequently airlifted to hospital.

A Woolworths Group spokesperson said the contractor was working on the redevelopment of the store.

The man had “fallen from heights” according to SafeWork NSW who attended the site.

7NEWS.com.au understands he had fallen from a roof.

“Our thoughts are with the contractor and their family. We’re also offering support to other contractors and team members who were on the site at the time,” the Woolworths spokesperson said.

“We will support authorities as required.

“We’re grateful to the local emergency services who were quickly on the scene to offer assistance.”

The Kiama Woolworths had been temporarily closed since Monday while renovations take place.

The worksite, Woolworths pop up shop and BWS are closed following the incident.
