Advani was one of the six women to be felicitated at the dinner, hosted by the Red Sea International Film Festival and Vanity Fair Europe on Saturday on the sidelines of the ongoing Cannes Film Festival in France.
While on the red carpet, the actress shared her excitement about being at the festival. “It’s very humbling,” she began while speaking about being honoured with the award. “It’s going to be a decade in my career now, so it comes at a very special moment as well. I’m so humbled to be here at Cannes for the first time and being honoured by the Red Sea Foundation for Women In Cinema,” she said.
However, it was Advani’s thick English accent that sparked a wave of criticism online. Many took to social media to express their disapproval, accusing the actress of adopting an exaggerated accent during her red carpet-appearance. “I love her but why that accent?” a fan asked and added a laugh-out-loud emoticon.
Another said, “Indian accent is in no way bad or a degrade then why do these people have to not choose it n ruin the whole damn thing.”
Still another said, “Her own accent is really good compared to this.”
