A Kmart shopper’s clever toaster hack has attracted criticism from some for a very unlikely reason.
Sharing on a popular Facebook page, Kmart fan Sarah revealed how she keeps her toaster on the store’s Chrome Pull-Out Store Organiser, which she’s attached inside a kitchen cupboard
By keeping the appliance there and simply pulling out the drawer when she needs to toast something, Sarah said it freed up lots of space on her kitchen counter and created less clutter.
But the simple hack came under fire from the “crumbs police” who were concerned that using her toaster this way would create a mess on the floor or in her cupboard.
In her post, Sarah said she was “so excited” by the $25 sliding drawer storage solution.
“I’m the only adult who uses the toaster daily and wanted it packed away off the bench (limited space and powerpoints),” she wrote on the Kmart Home Decor & Hacks Australia Facebook page.
“I have an existing power point underneath and added a short extension cable so it pulls all the way out easily.
“Used the Kmart chrome pullout drawer sliding organiser for this, $25.
“I will be getting a small tray to place under for the extra crumbs but did this at night and was so excited to share the idea straight away.
“Before the safety police come and advise, I’m aware of safety issues regarding turning toaster on whilst door is closed – door won’t be closed.”
Despite the fact that Sarah had offered a solution to the potential crumb problem, many were still concerned.
“All I see is crumbs,” said one.
Added another: “Imagine the crumbs over the bottom shelf.”
Other Kmart fans hit back at the criticism, defending Sarah’s hack.
“For the people with the crumb on floor comments,” one said. “Modern toasters come with a crumb tray that retains the crumbs it can be removed and cleaned.
“By the organised state of this lady’s cupboard, I think she may have the crumb situation, all under control.”
Said another: “People are so judgmental! How about they mind their own business!”
Wrote a third: “For all you negative Nancys worried about crumbs, lighten up. Have you not heard of a vacuum cleaner?
“And to those worried about the heat issue, I don’t see an issue, this is a fabulous idea!”
Another agreed with Sarah’s crumb solution, saying: “I bought one of the metal baking trays that fits my toaster to sit it in to eliminate the crumb dropping issue – works great!”
Sarah’s post attracted thousands of likes and comments, with many loving the idea.
“This is bloody brilliant! Don’t even justify yourself, screw the haters,” said one.
