Koh brand behind viral cleaning product named ‘best in Australia’ by Canstar Blue launches new laundry liquid

The makers of a chemical-free cleaning solution that has been named the best multipurpose cleaner in Australia for the second year running have released a new and “game-changing” product – Koh’s Universal Laundry Liquid.

Koh, whose Universal Cleaner ($34.95 for 4L) has taken the internet by storm for its ability to banish stubborn kitchen, bathroom and general home stains, has created the Universal Laundry Liquid, to bring its “simple, safe, effective, and sustainable” cleaning philosophy to the world of laundry.

While many laundry brands suggest you need multiple products to solve specific issues with your clothing, Koh’s product claims to do it all – without fragrance or questionable scented ingredients.

Shoppers who invest in the Universal Laundry Liquid can use it as a pre-wash treatment, laundry liquid and fabric care solution.

The three-in-one buy has been infused with biodegradable enzymes designed to tackle the root causes of common laundry problems rather than merely masking them.

So how is Koh different to regular laundry liquid and why should you invest?

Formulated with biodegradable enzymes that work deeper to give you a more thorough, hygienic clean, the Universal Laundry Liquid is ultra-concentrated, but fragrance free, and it has been dermatologically tested on sensitive skin.

Koh has also tested its new product against top supermarket brands (see below) in terms of value, where it found that the Universal Laundry Liquid comes out on top for cost per load.

The full Laundry Starter Kit (reduced from $74.85 to $52.40) is all you need to get started.

It contains one 1.6 litre bottle of Universal Laundry Liquid, one foaming spray bottle, one laundry pump dispenser and one sticker.

Koh says that one load of laundry requires just four pumps from the dispenser, and 1.6 litres should last 100 washes.

If you don’t like the product within 30 days, Koh says you can send it back and get a full refund.

This isn’t the first product Koh has launched to huge acclaim.

The Aussie brand, which boasts a customer base of more than one million people, is famous for the Universal Cleaner, which can banish stubborn kitchen, bathroom and general home stains – no scrubbing required.

House-proud people around the country have previously shown off the product’s “magic” ability to get rid of everything from raspberry juice stains on benchtops and red wine marks on couches, to baked-on ovens and even old showers and bathrooms.

The Universal Cleaner has more than 83,000 five-star reviews, where many have shown how well it works on windows, mirrors, toilets, floors and rugs.

It is currently one of the best-selling cleaning products in the country.

Koh’s Universal Cleaner was developed by chemists at the University of New South Wales, and it is formed using a complex combination of pure water and potassium mineral salts.

The active ingredient of potassium hydroxide makes up less than 0.5 per cent of the total composition, which means you get a “safe and powerful clean” without any of the usual nasties that make up some other household cleaning products.

The product works by lifting, suspending and binding with dirt, grease and grime while neutralising stains and odours.

When you’ve sprayed it, it converts to a carbonate mineral water – which is totally harmless.

It has been eco-certified to the GECA cleaning standard and is recommended by the National Asthma Council Australia’s Sensitive Choice program.

This means it’s handy if other household products make you struggle with your allergies.

Most recently, Koh won Canstar Blue’s Number One Multipurpose Cleaner of the year in 2023, after taking out the award in 2022 too.

This award is voted for by the Australian public, and it has never been won by the same brand twice – until now.

The brainchild of Sydney father, Adam Lindsay, Koh began when he became a father and realised many products were packed with chemicals.

The more Adam used regular cleaning products, the more aware and concerned he felt about their ingredients.

So he approached chemistry experts at UNSW Sydney.

After months of researching and testing, they came up with Koh – a cleaner suitable for the whole family and the whole house that is free from nasties and toxic chemicals.

A thrilled Adam spread the word about his new product, prompting fellow work-from-home dad, neighbour and friend, Justin Alexander, to come on board as a co-founder.

Together, they grew Koh from a local Bondi business at farmers’ markets to the Koh you know and love today – which is worth more than $40 million, according to a piece in the Australian Financial Review from 2021.
