Argentina start their Copa America 2024 campaign against Canada in Atlanta next week.
New Delhi: Lionel Messi and Angel Di Maria headline Argentina’s 26-member squad for the Copa America 2024 on Saturday, announced by head coach Lionel Scaloni. A total of 29 players were called up for a pre-tournament friendlies against Guatemala and Ecuador. Valentín Barco, Ángel Correa and Leo Balerdi were three players who were not included in the final squad.
The side is similar to the one that won the FIFA World Cup in Qatar in 2022. Messi was also the captain when Argentina won the Copa America title in 2021. Manchester United star Alejandro Garnacho has been rewarded for a brilliant season at Old Trafford. Notably, Garnacho didn’t play in Argentina’s friendlies against Ecuador and Guatemala.

Among the 26 are Liverpool’s Alexis Mac Allister, Manchester City’s Julian Alvarez and Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez. Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez has also been named in the side. Fernandez had to cut short his season at The Blues and underwent a hernia surgery so that he is available for the national side.
Garnacho’s Manchester United teammate Lisandro Martinez had also been named.
