People who want to make themselves look slimmer and taller – and even create an illusion of longer legs – can do so, with just a belt. A TikToker has wowed many after sharing a ‘little-known’ trick that can create a ‘smaller waist’ instantly.
Andrea, who is known as Andreasfashiongalaxy to her fans online, shared the straightforward hack in a video. Her ‘magic’ trick can also help creatively conceal a bloated belly.
“Sometimes we gain weight, and sometimes we lose weight,” she tells viewers. “But of course our favourite dress doesn’t fluctuate with us – not good! So what do we do? Let me show you.”
While wearing a long-sleeved pink dress, Andrea explains: “This is one of my favourite dresses. Now what do we do when we gain weight? Easy! We transform our waist to an empire waist.”
The term ’empire waist’ is used in the fashion industry to refer to the elevation of your waistline. It was originally made trendy during Napoleon Bonaparte’s era in the 1800s.
The design typically incorporates an A-line shape, giving off an illusion of a cinched-in waist. All you need to do is wear a belt slightly higher than you usually would across your abdomen – it should be positioned just under your bust.
Andrea demonstrates this by grabbing a belt and lifting it a little higher. “This way, you can have a tummy, but no one will be able to tell,” she said.
The fashion blogger claims that not only does this help give you better bosom support, due to the relocation of the waist, but it elongates the appearance of your legs, making them seem “a mile long”.
In the caption, Andrea added: “Gained weight but need to fit into that dress? You asked me to show you how I’d hide my tummy if I were to gain weight – here’s how.”
She went on to say: “Please note – you don’t have to hide your belly! But you asked so there we go.”
The clip has since gone viral, amassing over five million views as grateful fans flood the comments with praise for Andrea’s ingenious advice.
One viewers hailed the tip as “the Lord’s work.” Ann exclaimed: “THIS IS ACTUALLY SO HELPFUL.”
Evan was impressed, saying: “THIS IS SO SMART.” Will shared relief, writing: “I can finally wear dresses without feeling like my stomach is ruining my outfit.”
Pat admitted: “I’ve never even considered empire waist dresses.” Ezra gratefully remarked: “Thank you, actually just spent a full hour sobbing because I gained weight and look fat in dresses. Best hack.”
Patricia chimed in with a supportive message: “‘Sometimes we gain weight, and sometimes we lose weight’. This motto will help me this summer.”
