M1 Pacific Motorway Traffic Descends into Chaos as Fire Crews Confront Truck Blaze

A truck driver has escaped serious injury when their B-double became engulfed in a wall of flames that shut part of a major NSW highway overnight.

The M1 Pacific Mwy was closed northbound at Warnervale on the Central Coast for several hours on Monday night after a truck caught fire about 8pm.

Video from passersby shows the truck’s trailer well alight as firefighters battle the flames.

Authorities said the driver was able to safely remove the prime mover from the trailer and escape without injury. No one else was hurt in the incident.

One lane was reopened by 10pm to allow motorists to pass the fire site, before a second northbound lane was reopened just before 7am Tuesday.

Fire crews undertook an extensive salvage and clean-up operation into the early hours of Tuesday, with motorists warned of lengthy delays.

Motorists should expect delays and allow additional travel time, with heavy conditions expected throughout most of the morning, Live Traffic for NSW said.

The remaining northbound lane remains closed as clean-up efforts continue.
