The Mackinac Bridge, closed earlier this morning due to falling ice, is now reopen, according to the Mackinac Bridge Authority.
“Safe travels, everyone!,” a post at 1 p.m. said.
Earlier in the day, falling ice and hazardous conditions which have formed from recent fog freezing to the bridge’s towers and cables had closed the bridge, according to a news release.
Motorists were advised to avoid the area, officials said.
Later, officials said they were trying to shake some of the ice loose and were hoping the expected sunshine helps as well.
Ice could be seen falling as a truck crosses the bridge on Monday morning.
Today it is expected to be a high of 33 degrees in Mackinaw City with clouds yielding to some sun. Mackinac Island has a similar forecast.
Metro Detroit, on the other hand, could reach a high of 41 on Monday and even in the 50s later this week.
But, getting, getting back to the Mighty Mac, if you love it, small pieces of vintage steel grating from the deck of Mackinac Bridge are available for purchase.
