Maddie Ziegler has become something of a burgeoning fashion star lately, whether she’s attending Marc Jacobs’s 40th anniversary show or rocking in-the-know brands like Shushu/tong. But tonight at the 2024 SAG Awards, the actor and dancer cemented her place as a true fashionphile.
For the awards ceremony at the Shrine Auditorium & Expo Hall in Los Angeles, Ziegler wore a piece of fashion history. Styled by Jared Ellner, she arrived in a piece from Alexander McQueen’s spring 2003 collection, which was pulled from Shrimpton Couture.
The sheer beige chiffon dress is marked by an asymmetrical neckline and shredded tendrils of a hemline, with layers of ruffles over the bust and hips. The spectacular piece, as the archive wrote on Instagram, is considered the “little sister” of McQueen’s oyster dress from the “Irere” collection, which features the same asymmetry and tattered ruffle details.
The oyster dress is one of the most emblematic pieces in the spring 2003 collection, and is considered by many to be among McQueen’s most iconic looks. While The Met and Kim Kardashian own the originals, Ziegler, in her little sister dress, brings a legendary collection out of the archives and onto the red carpet, reminding us all of McQueen’s breathtaking work and enduring legacy.
The Fitting In actor rightfully kept the rest of her look simple, ensuring the ultra-rare dress got the attention it deserved. She wore a pair of tall white platforms and accessorized with just a few rings. With a piece of fashion history like this, Maddie Ziegler is definitely on our best dressed list.
