A magnitude 5.0 earthquake rocked far Northern California’s Shasta County on Friday morning, the U.S. Geological Survey said.
The earthquake hit at 10:24 a.m. with a depth of 9 miles. Its epicenter was about 7 miles northeast of Burney and 50 miles northeast of Redding.
More than 200 people reported feeling shaking on USGS’s “Felt Report,” and shaking was felt as far north as Klamath Falls, Oregon, as far west as Weaverville, as far south as Red Bluff and as far east as Susanville.

“A quake of this size can potentially damage structures near the epicenter, be careful,” USGS said on social media.
“It was very brief,” said Nancy Bobo, who works at the Green Gables Motel in Burney. “The desk shook and I talked to my partner at home about a half mile away and he said a couple things fell over. It was not bad.”
