Major update after NSW dad shot dead in front of young children

A man has been charged over the alleged shooting murder of a NSW father who died in front of his two young children two days after Christmas.

Zachery “Zac” Davies-Scott, also known as “Donnie”, was shot on the night of December 27, 2022 in his home on Traders Way at Heddon Greta in the NSW Hunter region, in what police believed was a home invasion gone wrong.

The 25-year-old was treated by paramedics but died at the scene.

Family members, including his pregnant fiancee and two children, aged two and four, witnessed the incident.

They were uninjured, but a 52-year-old woman who attempted to fight off the alleged attackers suffered minor injuries.

Homicide Squad detectives investigated the alleged murder under Strike Force Roslyn.

Earlier this year, Homicide Squad commander Danny Doherty said a group of at least three people forced their way into the home before Davies-Scott was shot.

The group then allegedly left in a white SUV.

Detectives believe the targeted shooting was drug-related, Doherty said.

“Whatever Zac may have been involved in, he didn’t deserve to be shot dead in his home,” Doherty said.

In February this year, detectives seized a white 2015 Mitsubishi Outlander from a street in Boolaroo in Newcastle.

On Tuesday, police raided a home in Boomerang Beach, about 20km south of Forster, where they arrested a 25-year-old man.

He was later charged with murder and refused bail to face Taree Local Court on Tuesday.

Investigations continue.
