Man arrested over alleged assault of three police officers in Bankstown

A man has been arrested, and three police officers have been taken to hospital, following an incident in Sydney’s south west.

Two senior constables were patrolling the Bankstown area just before midday on Monday when they attempted to speak with a man standing in the middle of Jacob Street Terrace.

The women instructed the man to move off the road, but police allege he became physically aggressive toward them.

The officers used OC spray in an attempt to subdue the man as he allegedly punched and kicked them before he fled the area and boarded a train.

The officers – aged 30 and 32 – were treated for their injuries at the scene by paramedics. The officers were then taken to Bankstown Hospital in a stable condition for further treatment.

A 43-year-old man was arrested at Yagoona on Monday afternoon and taken to Bankstown Police Station, where he allegedly assaulted a third officer, a 32-year-old male senior constable, while in custody.

The male officer has also been taken to Bankstown Hospital for treatment.

“Charges are expected to be laid and inquiries into the incident are continuing,” NSW Police said.
