Man dead as crash closes Princes Hwy at Sylvania

A man has died in a serious two-car crash in Sydney’s south forcing the closure of a major highway.

Emergency services were called to the crash on the Princes Highway at Albert Ave in Sylvania about 1.30pm on Friday after reports a Ford Falcon and a Volkswagen van had collided.

The male driver of the Ford, believed to be aged in his 60s, died at the scene.

The driver of the van, a man believed to be aged in his 30s, suffered serious leg injuries.

He was treated at the scene by paramedics before being taken to St George Hospital in a stable condition.

The Princes Highway was closed in both directions between Port Hacking Road and Box Road. All southbound lanes have reopened past the site of the crash, however, northbound lanes remained closed on Friday night.

Motorists were advised to avoid the area and find alternate travel routes.
