Man killed, woman wounded in Oakland shootings

OAKLAND — A 26-year-old man was fatally shot and a 28-year-old woman was wounded in a pair of shootings Saturday night that happened about 20 minutes apart in different areas of the city, authorities said.

The shootings are not related, authorities said.

The fatal shooting happened about 7:07 p.m. Saturday outside in the 8000 block of Edes Avenue not far from the Oakland Coliseum.

The 26-year-old man, whose name was not released pending notification of his family, got into a dispute with another man who shot him before fleeing, authorities said.

The victim, who lived in the area, was taken to a hospital where he died a few hours later, authorities said.

Police have not said what the dispute was about. No arrests have been made and no suspect information was released.

The killing is the 47th homicide investigated by Oakland police this year. Last year at this time police had investigated 53 homicides in the city.

The woman was found shot about 6:51 p.m. after her vehicle crashed near the intersection of High and Redding streets south of Interstate 580 and just east of the Laurel district.

She was in critical but stable condition at a hospital.

Initial reports were that she was shot while driving in the area, but exactly where has not yet been determined, police said.
