Man pulled unconscious from water at Maroubra beach

A rock fisherman is in a critical condition after being pulled unconscious from the water at a beach in Sydney’s eastern suburbs.

About 11.30am on Sunday, emergency services were called to Maroubra Beach after a man was swept off nearby rocks into the water.

“Officers from Eastern Beaches Police Area Command attended, along with surf lifesavers and a rescue helicopter, and located the man unconscious in the water,” a NSW Police spokesperson told 7NEWS.com.au.

The man, aged in his 50’s, was pulled unconscious from the water and treated at the scene before being taken to St George Hospital.

His remains in a critical condition.

Police are now attempting to identify the man and locate his next of kin.

The man is described as being of Asian appearance, approximately 160-170cm tall, slim build, olive complexion, and black/grey hair.

He was wearing long black pants, white long-sleeved button shirt with a grey cardigan, along with a black vest and white speckled boots.

The man had a blue Nike backpack and fishing gear with him.

Anyone with information is urged to come forward.
