Man shot in the head and chest at Campsie carpark

A 27-year-old man fighting for his life in hospital following a carpark shooting in Sydney’s southwest has been identified as Vailena Koloamatangi.

He was treated for gunshot wounds to his head and chest following the incident in Campsie about 9.15pm on Tuesday.

Koloamatangi was driving in a unit block carpark when nearly a dozen bullets were fired at him, some smashing through his window and into his door, causing him to crash his Corolla, 7NEWS understands.

7NEWS understands Koloamatangi had previously been shot in Merrylands in 2020. He has also been convicted of reckless wounding, knife offences, affray, and robbery.

The attack has all the hallmarks of a gangland shooting, but Burwood Police detective inspector Claudia Allcroft said: “We’re still in the early stages of our investigation, so I would not like to speculate on motive.”

“Regardless of who the victim is, these public acts of violence are unacceptable,” Allcroft said.

Three cars were found burnt out in separate incidents at Kingsgrove, Berala and Birrong.

The car in Kingsgrove crashed into a home before a fire broke out.

Police are now investigating whether the incidents are linked.

Crime scenes have been established.

Anyone with information relating to any of the incidents is urged to contact police.
