OceanGate, the manufacturer of the Titan submersible that met a tragic end in the Atlantic Ocean recently, is now embarking on an ambitious project to build a colony on Venus called “Humans 2 Venus”. The goal is to create a permanent habitable environment in Venus’ atmosphere by 2050 and transport 1000 people there. The colony will be a floating one, and it is being led by Guillermo Sohnlein, co-founder of OceanGate.
Despite the investigation into the sinking of the Titan submarine and the loss of lives, Guillermo Sohnlein remains undeterred in his plans. He asserts that there are no flaws in his project and takes a subtle dig at Elon Musk by stating that his project isn’t as grandiose as settling one million people on Mars by 2050, as Musk has expressed. Guillermo Sohnlein acknowledges that there’s always a certain level of risk involved, and there’s no such thing as 100% safety.
The Titan submersible, previously known as Cyclops 2, imploded on June 18, 2023, while transporting tourists to visit the wreckage of the RMS Titanic. It was created and operated by OceanGate and was the first privately-owned submersible with a maximum depth capacity of 4000 meters. Despite the tragedy, OceanGate remains determined in their pursuit of exploration and innovation.
