Maruti Suzuki tests its cars at its very own crash test facility, closely evaluating the vehicle’s safety features with the help of dummies that replicate the impact on actual human beings. The crash is then carried out to study front and side impact on the cars. The cars combine crumple zones on both ends that aim to protect the passenger compartment in the middle by absorbing impact.

The manufacturer even goes on to claim that a car undergoes 50 crash tests internally before it is introduced in the market. The impact on dummies, deployment of airbags, damage to seats and other interior bits is also evaluated. On a similar note, five Maruti Suzuki cars were crash tested by Global NCAP under its latest, more stringent protocols between 2022 and 2023, including S-Presso, Swift, WagonR, Ignis and Alto K10.
Apart from the Alto that scored two stars for adult occupant protection, the remaining four could only manage to secure one star each in the crash test. That said, Maruti Suzuki had revealed that it will send at least three models for the new Bharat NCAP crash test in the initial stages. Launched by MoRTH earlier this year, the Bharat New Car Assessment Program (BNCAP) aims to promote safer cars in India and help buyers make an informed decision.
