Maruti Suzuki Recalls 87,599 S-Presso and Eeco Units to Address Faulty Steering Tie Rods

India’s leading car maker, Maruti Suzuki, has recalled 87,599 vehicles to replace defective steering tie rods, the company said in a market filing.

The automaker announced that it is recalling 87,599 units of its S-Presso and Eeco models, which are manufactured in

between the 5th of July, 2021 and the 15th of February, 2023.”It is suspected that there is a possible defect in a part of steering tie rod, used in such vehicles, which in a rare case, may break and affect vehicle steerability and handling,” Maruti Suzuki said in a press statement.

Affected vehicle owners will receive communication from Maruti Suzuki authorised dealer workshops for inspection and replacement of the faulty part, free of charge, it added.

The said recall is effective today, i.e. 24th July, 2023, 06:30 pm onwards.

Maruti launched the S-Presso in 2019. A revamped version with 1-litre petrol engine with idle-start-stop technology offering fuel efficiency of up to 25.3 km per litre was launched last year. The model comes with features like dual airbags, high-speed alert system, reverse parking sensors standard in all variants and Electronic Stability Programme (ESP) with Hill Hold Assist in AGS variants.

In 2022, Maruti also introduced a new version of the Eeco MPV at Rs 5.10 lakh (ex-showroom). The new Eeco is available in 13 variants, including a 5-seater configuration, a 7-seater configuration, Cargo, tour, and Ambulance versions.
