McCarthy Claims Biden Probes Have Reached the Point of an Impeachment Inquiry

House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) stated that he anticipates the House GOP’s inquiries into President Biden’s family’s foreign business activities to reach the level of an impeachment inquiry.

“When Biden was running for office, he claimed he never discussed business and that his family never received money from China, which we have proven to be false,” McCarthy told Fox News host Sean Hannity on Monday night, referring to Biden’s previous statements that he did not discuss his son Hunter Biden’s foreign business activities.

McCarthy also mentioned two IRS whistleblowers who alleged that an investigation into Hunter Biden’s tax crimes was deliberately delayed, as well as House GOP investigations that revealed millions of foreign funds flowing through shell companies to Biden family members and associates.

“We have simply followed the information wherever it has led us. But Hannity, this is escalating to the point of an impeachment inquiry, which grants Congress the strongest authority to obtain the remaining knowledge and information,” McCarthy informed Fox News host Sean Hannity on Monday night.

“Because this president has also employed something we haven’t seen since Richard Nixon: the weaponization of government to benefit his family and prevent Congress from exercising oversight,” McCarthy added.

In response to McCarthy’s remarks, the White House accused House Republicans of neglecting important issues.

“Instead of focusing on the real issues that Americans want us to address, such as continuing to reduce inflation and creating jobs, this is what the @HouseGOP wants to prioritize. Their eagerness to go after @POTUS regardless of the truth appears to be boundless,” tweeted Ian Sams, the White House spokesperson for oversight and investigations.

McCarthy’s potential impeachment inquiry comes a few days after Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) and House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer (R-Ky.) released an FBI form that documented unverified allegations of corruption stemming from Hunter Biden’s work with Ukrainian energy company Burisma.

McCarthy did not base his impeachment inquiry on those unproven allegations, but their release fueled Republican skepticism regarding the foreign business dealings.

Additionally, the New York Post reported on Monday that former Hunter Biden associate Devon Archer plans to disclose during a closed-door interview with the House Oversight and Reform Committee this week that Hunter Biden would put then-Vice President Biden on speakerphone during meetings with foreign business partners.

White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre stated in a briefing on Monday that the president was never involved in business with his son.

“If they really ran it for foreign countries, why didn’t they receive money from France, Germany, or the UK? Instead, it’s countries like China and Romania, which have real challenges and faced problems in the past,” McCarthy commented on Fox News.

“I believe we will pursue this until the end, and it will lead to an impeachment inquiry, as outlined in the Constitution. We need to get answers to these questions,” McCarthy concluded.

Just last month, McCarthy suggested an impeachment inquiry into Attorney General Merrick Garland based on Garland contradicting IRS Whistleblowers regarding the authority of the prosecutor investigating Hunter Biden to bring charges in other jurisdictions.

A Morning Consult poll conducted from June 22-24 found that 30 percent of registered voters believed that investigating whether President Biden should be impeached should be a “top priority” for Congress. This included 11 percent of Democrats, 24 percent of independents, and 55 percent of Republicans.

Furthermore, 27 percent of registered voters overall believed that investigating Hunter Biden’s finances should be a “top priority” for Congress. This included 12 percent of Democrats, 24 percent of independents, and 46 percent of Republicans.
