Women can achieve anything at any age and nothing can stand in their way. Although not many may agree with this statement, there are remarkable examples that defy age stereotypes and inspire other women. One of them is Marissa Teijo, a 71-year-old, who made history this year as the oldest contestant to compete in the Miss Texas USA pageant. Although, she didn’t win the contest, but has impressed thousands with her talent and confidence. Aarieanna Ware won the crown on Saturday, June 22 in Houston. She is now all set to represent Texas in the Miss Universe competition.

The Miss Universe Organisation recently removed age limits for contestants over 18 to be more inclusive. This gave a better opportunity for women who are married, divorced or pregnant to participate. “I feel that all women now have a new stage of opportunity, strength and beauty,” Teijo reportedly said.

Who is Marissa Teijo?

Born on July 8, 1952, Teijo was raised in El Paso, Texas. She grew up on farm and at a very early age, realised her major admiration for fitness.  She has competed in various contests, including the National Physique Committee event. Before participating in the competition, she was delighted to help Texas and El Pasoans break stereotypes and motivate, especially women to follow what they want to, no matter what their age is.

In her Instagram previous post, she mentioned her incredible experience and wrote, “I am delighted to be a part of this incredible new experience as a contestant in the Miss Texas USA pageant. In doing so, I hope to inspire women to strive to be their best physical and mental self and believe there is beauty at any age.”

Jackie Garcia-Martinez, CEO of Bazaar Models, who represents Teijo, expressed her support in representing diverse women. He said, “I represent women of all shapes, ages, and races. As I prepare my team for the Miss Texas competition, I am excited to support these women who inspire me as a leader every day.”

Teijo’s participation is noteworthy, particularly in light of the Miss Universe organization’s recent rule change. Despite not winning the crown, her participation serves an inspiring reminder that beauty knows no age limits. Her journey challenges stereotypes and encourages women to embrace their best selves at any stage of life.
