Miss Universe 2023: Miss Nicaragua Sheynnis Palacios has been announced as the winner of the Miss Universe 2023. The annual beauty pageant was held at the Jose Adolfo Pineda Arena in San Salvador, El Salvador on November 19 IST where Palacios was crowned by Miss Universe 2022 USA’s R’Bonney Gabriel as per tradition.

The 72nd Miss Universe pageant witnessed contestants from 84 countries participating and creating history. The pageant was hosted by American television personality Jeannie Mai and Miss Universe 2012 Olivia Culpo, apart from American television presenter Maria Menounos.

For the first time in history, the pageant will see mothers, married women, transgender and a plus size model walking the ramp and making their place.

Meet Miss Universe 2023, Sheynnis Palacios

Born as Sheynnis Alondra Palacios Cornejo, the queen of the jewelled crown of Miss Universe 2023 hails from Managua in Nicaragua. She pursued her degree in Mass Communication from Universidad Centroamericana.

Palacios made her debut in the realm of beauty and pageantry as a 16-year-old teenager. She clinched the title of Miss Teen Nicaragua 2016 and later represented her country in Teen Universe 2017.

What Made This Year’s Miss Universe 2023 Unique

Breaking beauty stereotypes and gender norms, for the first time ever, the pageantry was more inclusive than ever.

  1. No Age Limit: This year, the organisers did away with the age limit. Michelle Cohn from Guatemala and Camila Avella Montanez from Columbia are mothers participating in the contest.
  2. Transgender Contestants: In a bid to make it more inclusive and equal, Marina Machete from Portugal and Valerie Kolle from the Netherlands are trans women who competed in the finals. This is the first time that people from the LGBTQIA community represented their country in this annual global pageantry.
  3. Plus Size Model: Miss Nepal, Jane Dipika Garrett, is the first plus-size model to walk the ramp of the annual beauty pageant. She endorses body positivity and is already making history with her participation.
  4. Pakistan Makes Debut: The 72nd Miss Universe will carve several records this year. Erica Robins is the first woman ever to be crowned Miss Universe Pakistan 2023.
