In the WEC, Schumacher will join a six-driver lineup alongside experienced drivers such as Nicolas Lapierre, Matthieu Vaxiviere, Charles Milesi, and Paul-Loup Chatin. The FIA WEC has been expanded to eight races in 2024, with the highlight being the prestigious Le Mans slated to happen in mid-June as Round 4.
Alpine will be unveiling its A424 livery and the crew lineup for the two hypercars in February next year. The season is set to commence from March 2, 2023 with Qatar hosting the first race. In October, Schumacher drove the endurance prototype for the first time in a bid to get familiar with the machine ahead of his debut outside the single-seater setup.
The car is impressive, and I can’t wait to get started. I’ve grown up with single-seaters, so driving a car with a closed cockpit and covered wheels is a great opportunity to hone my driving skills, said Schumacher.
He further admitted that he sorely missed racing this year as he said “it’s what I’ve loved to do since I was a kid, and it was sometimes difficult to watch the other drivers take to the track.”
