Microsoft has been incorporating its Copilot in a number of services. Last year, the company announced that it is bringing the AI-powered chatbot to Windows 11. Building on this, Microsoft has now said that it is testing a new feature that will automatically open Copilot when the OS starts.
According to Microsoft, the company is trying out this feature with some Windows Insiders in the Dev Channel.Furthermore, this feature will not be supported on all screens and will be limited to on widescreen devices.
The tech giant is currently seeking feedback from testers before the official release. Users can manage this setting by going to Settings > Personalisation > Copilot.
Not all displays supported
Notably, Microsoft does not provide a specific definition for “widescreen” devices, the Windows 11 setting suggests that it will activate Copilot when a wider screen is being used, potentially referring to ultrawide displays.
Microsoft says that the feature is only available on devices with a minimum diagonal screen size of 27-inches and a pixel width of 1920 pixels. Furthermore, this functionality will also be limited to primary display screens in multi-monitor scenarios.
“We’re trying this experience out on devices that have [a] minimum diagonal screen size of 27” and pixel width of 1920 pixels and are limited to primary display screens in multi-monitor scenarios. As a reminder, we regularly try out different experiences with Windows Insiders in the Dev Channel that may not ever ship, and others could show up in future Windows releases when they’re ready,” the company said.
Copilot key on keyboards
The development comes soon after Microsoft announced that it is introducing a new Copilot key on Windows PC keyboards. Pressing this key will launch the Copilot in Windows experience, making it more convenient for users to access Copilot in their daily lives.
Yusuf Mehdi, executive vice president and consumer chief marketing officer at Microsoft, stated that the Copilot key has become an integral part of the PC keyboard, alongside the Windows key. This new key will invoke the Copilot in Windows experience, enhancing the user’s engagement with Copilot.
It must be noted that Copilot in Windows is not available to everyone and it’s gradually being rolled out to Windows Insiders in select global markets.
