The film saw an impressive jump of approximately 70% in collections on its second day; however, this surge fell short of compensating for the underwhelming opening, which was estimated at just Rs 2.80 crores net.
On its first Saturday, “Mission Raniganj” raked in an estimated Rs 4.50-5 crores net, pushing the total two-day collection to over Rs 7.50 crores. Although the setback in opening day collections is undeniable, the film still has a chance to recover if it continues to show a similar growth in box office earnings on Sunday and maintains its hold at the box office in the week ahead. Monday is also very crucial for the film to sail through as far as the number game is concerned. As it stands, the film is projected to conclude its opening weekend with an approximate collection of around Rs 15 crores net in total.Currently, the collections of ‘Mission Raniganj’ are among the lowest ever for an Akshay Kumar starrer. It, however, fared better than the actor’s early 2023 release ‘Selfiee‘ which earned just around Rs 2.55 crore on it’s opening day.
Undeterred by box office outcomes, Akshay, in a recent press conference, expressed his commitment to creating movies that drive societal change, emphasizing that audience support fuels his dedication to such projects. Regardless of box office performance, the actor remains steadfast in his pursuit of meaningful cinema.
The superstar expressed his motivation to create movies that drive societal change, regardless of their box office performance. “We are currently experiencing a wonderful phase in which a wide variety of films, spanning various genres, are thriving. I have been a part of both content-driven and entertaining blockbuster films. There’s no need to burden ‘Mission Raniganj’ with expectations of financial success,” Akshay said during a group interview.
Akshay provided examples from his filmography, and explained that when he initially signed projects like ‘Toilet: Ek Prem Katha’ and ‘Pad Man‘, many questioned his choices. “I faced scepticism due to the unconventional subject matter. People questioned why I was making a film about toilets. I was told, ‘Are you crazy? Who makes a movie about such a topic?’ Please don’t discourage me by dwelling on the film’s box office prospects. Instead, let’s find strength in the fact that these meaningful films are being created and presented to our audiences,” Akshay concluded.
