A mum has sent social media into a spin after sharing the “shameful” punishment dished out by her son’s school teacher after he missed a day of school.
Posting on Reddit, the mother revealed how she found a Find-A-Word puzzle in her eight-year-old’s school folder after he was absent from school.
The puzzle included words such as “truant”, “excuse”, “responsibility” and “education”.

“I just don’t know how to feel about this,” the woman, believed to be from the US, wrote in her Reddit post.
“My son had to ask me what truant meant. Is this directed at the parents or simply just a fun worksheet?”
While the parent was in two minds over the act, thousands of Reddit users were not – slamming the teacher for handing out the “punishment”.
“I always find this sort of shame behaviour towards children so odd, its not like the eight-year-old is the person responsible for themselves attending school,” one said.
“It’s the responsibility of the parent/guardian to have their child attend.”
Another added: “Which a**hole set this? If an eight-year-old missed the first day of school, it’s almost never his fault.”
A third wrote: “That is petty as hell.”
One more responded: “I can feel the aggression from this. Yikes.”
Said another: “Former teacher here: This is horrible. Shame on whoever decided this should be sent home.”
One more accused the teacher of being a bully towards the child in question.
“They bully the children because either a) they’re too much of a coward to talk to the parent or b) they just kind of hate children,” one Reddit user responded.
“Passing the buck of emotional labor to a person that isn’t in control – whoever this is that’s assigning aggressive shit to kids is just another loser rocking the power balance to feel better about themselves.”
