NCIS legend Mark Harmon will be reprising one of his most recognisable roles next year – and it’s not Leroy Jethro Gibbs.

The CBS star famously departed the role of the task force’s Special Agent in Charge near the start of season 19 in 2021.

Newcomer Gary Cole has led the team since then as Agent Alden Parker, but fans are still hopeful for a Gibbs comeback soon.

Thankfully, it won’t be long before Mark will be back on screens, but he probably won’t be solving naval crimes this time.

He’s confirmed to be joining the cast of Freaky Friday 2 for Disney, reprising his role of Ryan.

In the 2003 original film, Ryan is engaged to Tess Coleman (played by Jamie Lee Curtis), the mother of Lindsay Lohan’s teen heroine Anna Coleman.

More than 20 years after the first body-swapping classic became a smash hit, Disney confirmed the sequel is finally in production on Monday (June 24) this week.

The news was announced on Instagram with a snap of Jamie and Lindsay on set outside their trailers, with the 65-year-old Oscar winner throwing devil horns and sticking her tongue out in a rock ‘n’ roll pose.

Disney’s official page wrote: “The Colemans are back and coming to theaters in 2025! The sequel to Freaky Friday is now in production!”

And Jamie added in her own post: “WE ARE FREAKING OUT because the Coleman’s are getting FREAKY AGAIN!” (sic)

Meanwhile, NCIS star Mark has been spotted out and about in Los Angeles filming the highly-anticipated sequel.

He hasn’t addressed returning for the sequel just yet, but Disney is undoubtedly excited to have him and the rest of the cast back for more hijinks.

Also among the returning cast are Chad Michael Murray, Christina Vidal Mitchell, Haley Hudson, Lucille Soong, Stephen Tobolowsky and Rosalind Chao.

Plus, new faces Julia Butters, Manny Jacinto, Maitreyi Ramakrishnan and Sophia Hammons will also be joining the action.

Nisha Ganatra is directing the film after previously helming features The High Note and Late Night.

The sequel is also set for a theatrical release next year, despite speculation it was being produced exclusively for Disney+.

NCIS is available to stream on Disney+.
