New 2022 Mahindra Scorpio (Z101) images leaked: Flaunts beefy, muscular design

For a long time now, Mahindra has been testing the upcoming Scorpio (Z101) on the Indian roads. Just a few days ago Mahindra released a teaser video revealing a few details of the SUV’s headlight, side profile, and rear-left corner, and now spy images of the SUV have surfaced online, revealing the full design.

As per the teased images, the overall design of the SUV looks quite muscular. At the front, Mahindra has placed its vertical grille design that extends to become the double-barrel headlamps. The car also gets the honeycomb pattern grille in the lower part of its front bumper with C-shaped LED DRLs with fog lamps. One confusing part here is that the model seen here wears the old Mahindra badge, whereas the one teased a few days ago wears the ‘Twin Peaks’ Mahindra logo, as seen on the XUV700.

Moving on to the side, the new Scorpio gets a new set of diamond-cut alloy wheels which are likely 17-inches, and there is also a slightly raked chrome beltline rising from the C-pillar.

Talking about the back, the 2022 Scorpio gets vertically mounted tail lamps and a side-opening tailgate. The rear bumper features a fairly flatter profile, similar to the outgoing model. Also, the reverse lights of the SUV have been placed at the end of the bumpers with a wrap-around chrome strip.

Moving on to the inside, the interiors will also be all new and is expected to come with a much larger touchscreen, vertically placed AC vents, and some interior elements shared with the XUV700
Powertrain options
The 2022 Mahindra Scorpio is expected to come with both Petrol and Diesel engine options. While the engines will be shared with the XUV700, it might get a different tune with lower power outputs.
Just like the XUV 700, the diesel version of the Mahindra Scorpio is expected to come with two output options. A 6-speed manual will be standard while a 6-speed torque converter automatic will be available for both petrol and diesel. Also, an AWD or 4×4 with a low-range option will be offered on some variants of the new Scorpio.
When launched, the Mahindra Scorpio will compete with the likes of the Tata Safari, MG Hector and the Hyundai Alcazar. The new SUV will be manufactured at Mahindra’s Chakan facility. The XUV700 should be priced between Rs 12 to 19 lakh (ex-showroom).
