In a new collaboration with Arnott’s, the limited edition Coles Easter buns come in a pack of four and appear to be generously seasoned with Shapes Pizza flavouring.

But a Coles spokesperson has told 7NEWS.com.au the new offerings weren’t available in stores just yet.

“We love to hear the excitement Aussies have when two iconic brands come together, and we have some rippers in the works for you!” the spokesperson said.

“The rumours are true, we have teamed up with the bikkie masters at Arnott’s to develop some exciting creations but you’ll have to wait a little longer to try these fair dinkum Aussie classics.

“We can’t wait to share more details with our customers soon, including when they’ll be available in store.”

The controversial release follows on from last year’s contentious Special Burger Sauce Hot Cross Buns, which attracted widespread confusion.

“Just because they can create monstrosities like this, doesn’t mean they should,” one Coles shopper said at the time.

Now it seems the supermarket’s new Pizza Shapes Hot Cross Buns are attracting a similar reaction from customers.

“Nah, they’ve gone too far,” said one social media user.

Another added: “It’s a crime against humanity.”

A third wrote: “Noooo, won’t someone think of the children?”

One more responded: “I’m actually just ready to depart the universe now.”

Said another: “I’m not sure how to feel about this.”

Others were confused by the new hot cross bun hybrid.

“They didn’t learn from last year. Also, why (are) they picking the worst Shapes flavours!?” one asked.

Another responded: “Why couldn’t it have been cheese and bacon?”

A third wrote: “Should’ve been barbecue.”

One more said: “Pizza is the middest of all shapes flavours.”

However some were excited to give the new variety a go.

“OK, I’m game to try,” said one.

Another added: “OMG, yummy.”

A third wrote: “I’m trying for sure.”
