New-gen Suzuki Swift crash-tested in Euro NCAP: Check how safe is the popular hatch

The fourth-generation Suzuki Swift has been put through the crash tests by the Euro NCAP, earning a three-star safety rating. The European New Car Assessment Programme evaluated the new Swift across various safety categories, resulting in mixed scores. It is worth noting that the Swift tested under the Euro NCAP was the global-spec, which boats of additional features over the India-spec model such as ADAS.Therefore, the Euro NCAP rating may not reflect the safety performance of the Indian variant.
New-gen Suzuki Swift: How safe is it
The hatchback secured 67 percent for adult occupant protection (AOP), 65 percent for child occupant protection (COP), 62 percent for safety assist systems, and 76 percent for vulnerable road users (VRU). Specifically, the Swift garnered 26.9 out of 40 points in adult occupant protection and 32.1 out of 49 points in child occupant protection.
In Europe, the Swift is equipped with six airbags, ISOFIX anchors, seat belt reminders, and advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) such as autonomous emergency braking, lane change assist, and driver fatigue detection.

The cabin structure performed well in frontal crash tests. It provided good protection for the driver and passenger’s knees and femurs, although chest protection was rated as weak and marginal.
Child occupant protection scored 65 percent, with the Swift featuring ISOFIX child mounts and other safety features to secure young passengers in collisions. For vulnerable road users, the Swift scored 76 percent. The bonnet offered adequate protection for pedestrians, and the front bumper was effective in safeguarding their legs. However, the A-pillars provided poor protection. The autonomous emergency braking system was rated adequate in detecting pedestrians and cyclists.
The Euro NCAP tests highlighted the effectiveness of the ADAS systems, particularly in detecting other vehicles. The lane support and speed detection systems also performed well, though the driver status monitoring system only detects drowsiness and lacks an occupant detection feature, reducing its overall score.
