The new Skoda Superb will share its underpinnings with the second-gen Kodiaq and will get two petrol, two diesel, and one plug-in Hybrid engine options.
The petrol trims will include – a 1.5-litre petrol engine coupled with a mild hybrid system and a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox, a 2.0-litre petrol TSI tuned to belt out 204 and 265 hp, respectively. Both will come mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, however, the latter will be distributing the power to all four wheels.
Furthermore, the car gets two diesel options as well – a 150 hp, 2.0-litre TDI mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch AT and a more powerful, 193 hp 2.0-litre TDI with 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox, which will get a four-wheel drive system.
The fifth option, a plug-in hybrid, dubbed as Superb iV, will draw its power from a 150 hp, 1.5-litre TSI engine mated to a 25.7 kWh battery. The combined output of this system will be 204 hp and it will come mated to a six-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox. The manufacturer has also claimed that this variant will also deliver an electric-only range of 100 kilometres.
The company will offer up to ten airbags, a new touchscreen infotainment system of up to 12.9 inches, steering-mounted controls besides the addition of some ADAS features such as Turn Assist and Crossroad Assist.
The company recently pulled the plug on the third-gen Superb sold in India due to noncompliance with the RDE regulations. The company is expected to re-launch the sedan in India but first, as a third-gen, BS-6 phase 2 compliant model. Only time will tell when the new fourth-gen Superb will make its debut in India. It will break covers globally sometime later this year.
