A new walking route has been introduced in Cornwall, UK that spans across the county, creating a circular walk for the first time. Known as the Tamara Coast to Coast Way, the 87-mile (140km) route follows the River Tamar, which runs along the border between Cornwall and Devon. The walk showcases a variety of landscapes, including wooded valleys, farmland, moors covered in heather, and areas with historical mining significance. The aim of the route is to attract visitors to the overlooked but beautiful inland areas of Cornwall, rather than just the coasts. Will Darwall, manager of the Tamara Landscape Partnership Scheme, hopes that the route will inspire people to explore the far south-west of Britain, as it offers both natural beauty and historical significance. The route starts at Cremyll in the south and ends at Marsland Mouth near Morwenstow in the north, therefore creating a new 387-mile circular walking route around Cornwall called Kylgh Kernow. The Tamara Coast to Coast Way also connects with the South West Coast Path, allowing walkers to extend their journey. The route incorporates existing paths such as the Discovery Trail in the south and the Bude Canal Trail in the north, with the addition of a new permissive path on the Pentillie estate near St Mellion. The route can be completed in seven days, with stages ranging from just over four miles to 17 miles. However, walkers are encouraged to take their time and explore at their own pace. The connection to the coastal path is expected to be a popular highlight for many. The Tamara Coast to Coast Way has received funding from the National Lottery Heritage Fund and is expected to attract long-distance walkers as well as those who prefer to explore specific sections of the route. The introduction of this new walking route is seen as an exciting development and a way to connect different regions and landscapes within Cornwall.
